What is undercutting phenomenon when slewing bearing and pinion mesh

Xuzhou Wanda slewing bearing is a manufacturer specializing in slewing bearing and pinion. Today, the manufacturer will introduce to you what is the undercutting phenomenon.

pinion mesh1

In the process of machining involute gear with the generating method, sometimes the tooth top of the cutter will cut off part of the involute tooth profile at the root of the gear to be machined. This phenomenon is called undercutting.

Undercutting occurs because the tooth top line (rack type tool) or tooth top circle (gear cutter) of the tool exceeds the limit meshing point. If undercutting occurs when the slewing bearing gear and pinion mesh, it will weaken the tooth root strength, and may even reduce the transmission coincidence, affecting the transmission quality, which should be avoided as far as possible.

Effect: After undercutting, the thickness of the slewing bearing tooth root will be reduced, the bending resistance of the tooth will be reduced, and the coincidence will be reduced, which will affect the stability of the transmission, so we must try to avoid it.

If the tooth number is less than 17,in order to prevent undercutting, Xuzhou Wanda slewing ring bearing will cut a fillet from the involute at the gear root when machining the gear, or increase the modification coefficient.
